Record Heat Chills City’s Retail Sales
(Crain’s) — As temperatures in the Big Apple inched into the triple digits Wednesday, New York business owners learned that the bulk of their customers are just fair-weather friends.
Sales at the city’s retail stores and restaurants so far this week are up just 5% and 7% respectively compared to this time last year, according to research firm Planalytics – a meager bounty considering that consumer confidence had been building all year.
