Google Talks Web Speed
(Technorati) — According to Hölzle, the average web page weighs about 320 KB, and takes just under five seconds to load (4.9 to be exact) and he wants to see performance improve. The same can likely be said for the 1,000 people in attendence for his talk. And it’s not just about user happiness, either. Slow-loading pages effect Google’s bottom line, causing a dip in ad revenue, and Hölzle discussed a wide range of initiatives that aim to both increase Google’s bottom line and make the web a happier place by introducing speed improvements.
