Of all the of the famous couples that people think about when it comes to Black love, one that’s often overlooked but has lasted the test of time, is the relationship of actress Lela Rochon and filmmaker Antoine Fuqua. The couple, who share two children together (and one from a previous relationship Fuqua was in), were engaged in 1998 and have been married since 1999, but together for more than 20 years. As Rochon looked back on more than two decades of love with her partner-in-crime on their anniversary, she shared a photo from their wedding day that is absolutely stunning, as well as a heartfelt message for her mate:
“Happy Anniversary to Us❤💕 I knew when we met over 20 years ago in #hongkong you were the man for me,” she wrote. “I’ll never forget this moment, ‘Ladies and gentlemen Mr & Mrs Antoine Fuqua'”:
As she stated, Rochon and Fuqua ended up meeting in Hong Kong. In an interview with Jet magazine in 2003, their first date was one that lasted all day and night.
“There was a huge celebration and we met at a party in Hong Kong. It was pretty much love at first sight,” she said. “We went on this really, long, long date all over the island going to parties because over there they sleep by day and party all night. It’s pretty unbelievable, but we ended up naming our daughter Asia as corny as that is.”
The couple have gone on to create a lot more wonderful memories over the more than 20 years they’ve been together. And in honor of that, we thought we’d take a walk down memory lane and check out some images of the happy couple from over the years. Hit the flip and help yourself to some warm fuzzies (and some nostalgic fashion).
