Being dedicated to dating, open to new experiences, enthusiastic about meeting people, and committed to finding commitment is terrific!…In moderation. There is such thing as just going on too many dates. It’s kind of like going out for too many job interviews or checking out too many new apartments—each of these could greatly affect your quality of life for a long time, so your brain has to be extra alert and tuned into details all of the time. You’re bound to feel a bit exhausted after a while. Going on first dates is no different. If you’re going to do them well, you’re going to put your heart and soul (and money and efforts) into them. Most people only have the stamina to do that for so long before their dates become sloppy, messy, blurs of experiences. Then you get nowhere. So, are you headed for first date burnout?

You can’t remember a night without makeup

Your life feels like an endless cycle of straightening or curling your hair, putting on mascara, putting on foundation, taking off mascara, taking off foundation, and getting in and out of Spanx. You can’t remember a day when you didn’t have to put a ton of effort into your appearance.

Your Lyft or Uber account is out of control

If you look at your ride history, you’re spending more time in a Lyft or Uber than in your own vehicle, the bus, the metro, or whatever your typical (sober) form of transportation is.

You’ve been mistaking one guy for another

You’ve asked a guy how his sister with the lama ranch is doing but this guy doesn’t have a sister or know anyone with a lama ranch—you’ve just started confusing one guy for another.

You hate the sound of your own voice

You’ve told your story—about your family, your college years, your best friends, your work—so many times that you hate the sound of your own voice. You’re considering making a PowerPoint presentation of this information to show first dates.

You can’t remember who you’ve told what

You’ve told the same story more than once to the same person…several times. Many dates have had to say, “You already told me that.” But you can’t keep what you’ve told whom straight.

When you go to meet a date, you sort of feel the way you feel when you drive to the pharmacy, and know you’re going to have to wait in line for a long time and endure the annoying banter with the checkout person.

If someone changes the time of a date on you, you just can’t do it. You become noticeably annoyed. Your brain doesn’t have the bandwidth for any adjustments.
