I couldn’t possibly guess why, but some couples have started to use gym time as time to be together. For me, personally, the gym is a thing I do not love and my partner is a person I love very much, so why would I let the gym sully my relationship with my honey? And why would I subject my boyfriend to the mood I’m in at the gym? Well, perhaps for some people who love working out, they don’t feel that way. So bringing their boo and their sweat spot together seems like the conjoining of two great worlds. But regardless of whether or not you love or hate the gym, you have to admit that there are some inherent downsides of making your gym time part of date time. Here is why you shouldn’t make your boyfriend your gym buddy.

He may not be a talker

Your boyfriend may be one of those people who doesn’t like to talk at the gym. So it may feel a bit cold when you try to chit chat with him on the elliptical and he gives you one-word answers with mostly silence.

He’ll see you only have three workout tops

You low-key only have, like, three workout tops. And you don’t necessarily wash them after every workout (you don’t sweat that much) but you don’t want your partner to know that.

You know you have that flirt

You know you have that one hot guy at the gym for whom you work out harder. Hopping on the treadmill near him inspires you to work a little harder, but you feel like your boyfriend will catch onto this.

What about your secret post-gym activities?

Admit it: you have your little post-gym guilty activities, like stopping into that expensive boutique or getting ice cream. You never just go to the gym.

What about the days you want to quit early?

What about those days your body is tired and you need to stop early? If your partner wants to keep exercising, then you’ll feel pressured to keep going but you could harm your body.

You can’t go on your own schedule

You’ll always have to schedule the gym with your partner. You can’t rush off to it to make it home in time for the episode of your favorite show. I mean, you can, but your partner will be disappointed.

It’ll feel personal when he doesn’t come

Likewise, if your partner goes at a different time from you or chooses not to come along one day, you’ll wonder if it’s personal.

He may not be the perfect gym rat

For all you know, your partner is that person who skips the line for the workout equipment or steals two towels or leaves sweat on the machines. Do you want to know those things about him?

He can’t take back those faces

Once you’ve seen the faces your partner makes when he lifts, you can never un-see them. Just saying.

Men are gonna creep

You know men can be creepy at the gym. There are men who hit on you there and leer at you. Then your boyfriend will get all protective and want to start something with them.

And you like to creep

You, likewise, leer. Come on. You know there are some gorgeous men who lift shirtless at whom you like to steal a few glances. Try not doing that when your boyfriend is around.

You feel rushed in the locker room

You know you like to take your time in the sauna, take a long shower, look at your newly toned muscles in the mirror and chat with the other women in the gym locker. But your partner will rush you.

Men are competitive

Men can be rather competitive. Your partner might unintentionally push you too far by trying to get you to keep up with him.

You need some alone time

You need some alone time as an individual, even when you’re in a relationship. If you start going to the gym with your boyfriend, what’s next? Is he coming to get pedicures too?

He’ll overdo it for your sake and injure himself

Your partner will go too hard, lift too much, and just overdo it while trying to show off in front of you. You’ll go home with an injured man after day one.
