Metra Won’t Pay for Wi-Fi
(Medill Reports) — Chicagoans might wonder if their city is falling behind the pack on modern transit amenities like wireless Internet access. Boston introduced Wi-Fi service to its trains in 2008, which has since been expanded to its commuter boats. The San Francisco-area commuter train system introduced high-speed wireless Internet access to limited areas in 2007, and New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Agency recently called for proposals from service providers for Wi-Fi on two commuter rail lines.
